Random Facts, Vol. 11

My husband has an odd habit.
I suppose, honestly, it is my fault he has it.

It all started when he was still working in St. Louis.  He was gone half the week, home half of the week.  He was half living out of a suitcase (or in his case, duffel bag) for about 2 years.

One thing that drove me crazy was that he would pack extra clothes, then mix the clean and the dirty stuff together in his bag, so I never knew what needed washed, and the clean clothes weren't exactly downy fresh. I would complain about washing "clean" clothes again because he couldn't figure out an appropriate spacial arrangement in his luggage.

This continued up in until the day he then started making me what he called dirty clothes "packets."
Yep.
Packets.

What in the world is he talking about you ask?
This.....

This is a picture from our hotel from last weekend.
As you can see, Zac has made 3 lovely dirty clothes "packets" for me.  Didn't put them back in his bag, but left them on the table...I digress.

Basically Zac decided that he would wrap all of his dirty things up inside of his t-shirt for the day.  Socks, wrapped up in boxers, balled up in a t-shirt.  Boom!  Packet.
His clean clothes were kept from smelling like dirty socks and a habit was born...

Now when he travels, he comes home with his clothes just like this for me.
I am a lucky girl.

God bless my husband, and his well contained filth.

Ladie's

Hey Ladie...can I use your bathroom?
As I understand it, the bathroom belongs specifically to you.
Perhaps if there was a "ladies" room around here I could use it instead.
Darn the bad luck.

I love unnecessary ' marks.
I also enjoy public stupidity.

Precious

I saw this picture online.

I downloaded it.

I love it.  Everything about it.

Partly because the baby is precious, curly hair and all.
Partly because the watch reminds me of my Grandpa Everett's watch.

I hope it makes you as happy as it makes me.

Random Facts, Volume 7

I am that guy.  The guy at the hotel that takes all of the little sample things.  I don't know why I love them, but I do!

I'm not so bad that I steal them off of the maid's cart.  I just take the ones I figure I am entitled to because I did pay for the room.  But really, do I need them....No.  Do I want them, Yes!

And this my friends, is why I came home with more shampoo than I left with.

No regrets here.  None what-so-ever.

What I'm up to

My life has been a bit random lately.  Each day is a new adventure in teaching.  As I mentioned before, I like it.  Subbing is not particularly dfficult.  I think maybe it's because I can be physically intimidating  (Thank you height and belly graudally protruding more than my boobs) and I do think I have a voice that commands attention.  Well....it projects if nothing else, but that's a post for a different day.  But really, I don't catch too much sass and the problem kids don't seem too bad to/for me.

Perhaps it's my brutual honesty which allows me to out-smartass my smartass kids. A friend once described it as "tactlessness."  Which only made me laugh and tell him his sketchers tied-so-tigh-there were-no-laces-showing-over-the-tongue of the shoe which then necessitated double knotting of the laces, was super dorky.  Especially on a 28 year old.  Rude, maybe, essential to finding an appropriate wife for my buddy, for sure.  I digress....

I've been teaching, and Wildtree-ing (which I'll post about soon) and working on paintings and tryin to get ready for Ford.  He gets irritated each time I sit down and then starts mini-punching my lady business, but that's life for now.  I have big plans for my little man, but for now I'm working on his room.

This may come as a shock to you...but fabric is a little bit like crack to me.  I have been on the lookout since I found out we are having a boy.  I can't wait to start his quilt.  I am trying to decide just how big of one he needs and if I'll be keeping it a simple square quilt or if I will try to whip out a pattern.  Probably just squares cause my favorite part is laying it out.  I do it randomly.  I'm not one for uniformity.  Eyeballin it.  That's how I roll.

These are what I have picked out for now.
This and this and this and this and this and this and this and this.

That's about $80 so far and I can't stop!  Those are just what I picked out on Fabricworm.  There's more just kickin' it in my Etsy favorites list.  I am a woman on fire here!  I know that I want Ford's room to be orange and green and grey and turquoise, but like a dark turquoise.  It's gonna be dope!  Yep, dope.
We have a crib now and I love it!  It's dark and big and manly.  Like my husband...except for the dark thing.  Zac is decidedly light.  I'll post pictures of it soon.  The crib I mean, not my husband.  Well, probably both.

Zac and I just made it up to Wisconsin.  What in the world is in Wisconsin you ask....a weekend of continuing education for me and an excuse and opportunity for Zac to sleep in.  I use a company called Standard Process as my primary provider of supplements.  They are truly great products.  One hallmark of a great supplement company is that they educate their providers AND that they are an open book when it comes to the processing of their products.  Standard Process does both.  In fact, this entire weekend I'm attending is put on by them.  Tomorrw Zac and I tour their organic farms and take a tour of their manufacturing facilities.  The next day is all lectures for me and Zac will be at the driving range until it's time for food.  We have been looking forward to a weekend away.  I think our last stay away from home other than for holidays was when Ollie had open heart surgery last June.  Regardless, it's been too long.

So this is what I've been up to.  I have a lot of posts coming up soon.  Get excited folks!

Staged support

Of all the shows on tv for my man to really love, it is American Idol that he is into.  I tolerate it.  He would say I like it.  I mostly sit and read and complain about the song choices and how they "gag me." He sits and laughs and we pick who we think is going home.  It's a thing we do now.

Last week we were watching the eliminations and it looked terrible.  I commented to Zac about how much it would suck being a contestant.  Especially when the other contestants are singing all up in your face and you have to smile and clap along...uhhh.  Awful.

So fast forward to elimination night and I say to Zac, "Wouldn't it suck to be a contestant right now. How awkward."  To which he replied "Oh man, I've thought about this. Having to sit on stage, never knowing when the camera is on ya, giving cheesy grins and having to be "supportive."  I laughed hard.  Mostly I think because of the fact that he was really into his response and he sat up off the couch and then he finger quoted supportive.... and because it is so true.  Just look how awkward this picture is and it's not even a tense situation.  I am uncomfortable for them. I am glad Zac and I are on the same page.

Maybe it's just me and my aversion to what I have dubbed "sharing and caring hour."  I get the same feeling when I am in awkward group situations, ie my first day of school when they video taped all of us introducing ourselves and stating why we decided to pursue becoming chiropractors.  I didn't care about why everyone else was there.  I would have rather had the day off.  The vast majority of my classmates agreed.  I felt dorky.  Feeling dorky is not my thing.

Just know readers, if we are ever in the middle of a team building exercise, I will like you better if we can just make fun of the really enthusiastic people together.  If you aren't equally as disinterested and sarcastic as me, we probably won't work well together anyway.  I wonder as I write that, if maybe that's a character flaw I should try to correct, ...but it is true and I can't care.

Truth in advertising

I find myself to be a little too trusting of others.  Why you ask?

Because every so often, they remind you that some people have nothing to hide.

There is absolutely nothing special about this stove.

I appreciate truth in advertising.

Dreamscapes

I don't know about you other mama's out there...but I have ridiculous dreams.  I hear lots of women have crazy pregnancy dreams and it's happenin over here.  Don't get me wrong, I have ALWAYS been a dreamer.  Every night, and I almost always remember them the next morning.  They have just been odd lately in that they are FULL of people from my past.  Classmates mostly.  People I literally haven't seen or talked to in years.  Then I like to mix in a little bit of my own more recent history.  Case in point, my dream from last night.

Two things you should know....I have been watching the show Downtown Abbey and I used to ride the school bus with a girl named Tabitha, that wanted people to call her Abby.  It drove me crazy.  Two people, within close proximity shouldn't have the same name.  Especially when it is not your given name.  I am Abbie, you are Tabitha.  Done.

So last night I fall asleep peacefully in the middle of the bed since Zac was out of town, all set for 9 hours of highly interrupted sleep like usual.  Cue dream sequence #1

I am RICH! Or more to the point, my dad is rich.  We are livin it up in our mega-house when my high school best friend/somewhat boyfriend Casey shows up.  He has been out of town (he works way out of state, somewhere, or at least he used to.  I don't know where cause it changes a lot and I haven't talked to him for almost 3 years but I digress...) and wanted to come visit us.  I give him the tour of the mansion...which I can describe in detail but won't.  I show him the pools, and then take him to the bathroom because for some reason in my dream, he was literally fresh off the road and needed to shower.  Odd in and of itself.  Anyway, Casey showers, then we resume the tour.  We meet up with my Dad.  Dad tells Casey that he can have my entire inheritance if he marries me.  Dad will sign over the papers.  For some reason, this does not seem entirely outlandish to me.  Part of my mind is reeling....why does Casey get my inheritance? where is zac? etc.  The other part is happy to see Casey and find out where he has been in the world.  Then my alarm went off....I snoozed it and bam, Dream #2

I am at a concert with 3 kids I went to high school wiht, Todd, Jared and Tabitha.  Now I never really hung out with any of the listed...but I think Jared and Todd were there because they were taller than me and I needed a back row....anyway.  Here we are, jammin at a concert with a drummer that also happens to be named Abbey.  And in the dream, I know that it is spelled EY.  Just know it.  So Abbey the drummer is doing her thing as we all watch.  The other people at the concert are going on and on and on about her.  I gradually get annoyed because it keeps interrupting my conversations thinking they are talking to me.  I turn to my friend on the right to say, "it's times like these that I wish I were not named Abbie." when Tabitha/Abby beats me to the punch.  Why the next part happened, I don't know...but I turned to Tabitha and I LOST it.  I yell at her "What are you even talking about you crazy bi**h!  You are standing next to a girl that is ACTUALLY named Abbie, complaining about being named Abby.  YOUR NAME IS TABITHA!"
Alarm #2
Yep.  I super mega freaked out on Tabitha in my dream and offered her no dream time for retaliation.  Occasionally my dream-mates have to abide a cussing.  No apologies.

This is now happening on a nightly basis.  Not the cussings so much as all these people that I went to high school with, popping back up in my dreams.  It is weird.  Thanks to Facebook for enabling me to see my classmates now, they are all grown up versions of the teenagers I once knew.  All I've got to say is look out Shelbyville High School Classes of 2000-2005.  You are on my dream radar and I am not afraid to be mean!

(ps....sorry tabitha)

Hair today, gone tomorrow

I did it again, I went a little crazy.  Like making random drastic changes to my appearance crazy.  I told my mom and sisters for a long time that I was growing out my hair to donate it.  I've done it before and was about to donate it a second time when Mag and I ruined that opportunity.  She was fresh outta cosmetology school and her friend had told her about a new way to roll a perm that created big loose waves.  She asked if she could try it, I said sure.

Mistake #1:  Trying a new way to roll, when you don't know how to unroll it to check the set.

Mistake #2:  Listening to your sister, the chiropractor, when she says "Well, how long can a perm stay on?...let's just leave it the full 20 then."

Mistake #3:  Freaking out when you have ramen-noodle hair and then immediately shampooing.

Mistake #4:  Leaving the salon with said ramen hair.

Luckily mom's friend from high school was one of Mag's instructors from cosmo school so she was happy to look at it to see how it could be fixed.  Unfortunately, there was nothing to be done.  I believe her words were, "Oh Abbie....Oh...I don't know.  It's pretty bad."  Or something to that effect.  I chopped it all of.  When in doubt, scrap it and start over.

Since then, I've been a little more protective of my hair.  I kept growing and growing.  I really had intentions of cutting it sooner, but kept it just like a kid clingin' to a baby blanket.  I wrote my dear friend Lauren a letter.  I told her I was debating the hair cut (damn you pinterest) and told her by the time she got the letter I would have decided whether or not to man up.
But then again, that was precisely the problem.  I did not want to look like a man.

Zac was not so encouraging.  When I asked him if he would love me just as much with short hair he answered, "well, I guess I kinda have to."  Not exactly the support you are looking for, but I figured he could suck it up.  (it has grown on him....he said so, without me even asking)

So in to the salon I went.  I decided that there was nothing wrong with looking just like my mom and sisters and that I would not look man-ish.  Mag asked how short she could cut it.  She really wanted to take it up to my shoulders.  I said no way, if it's getting cut, we were cutting to donate.  It took us 45 minutes to come up with the courage to whack it off.  The other girls in the salon wouldn't leave for lunch until it was cut.  It was quite the event.

This is where I started.

We sectioned it, Maggie cut off the ponytails, then I looked this good.

That was attached to my head.  Weird right.  And somehow, after it is removed from my head, I find it creepy and gross.  It was even creepier when it rode around in the console of my car for weeks until I actually mailed it to the donation center. Ewww.

This is my new do.

Mom says it makes my eyes look pretty.  I would argue that they have always been pretty.  I look just like my mom and sisters now.

Case in point.

Now I rock the short do.  I like to give a little faux hawk too.  My patients dig it.  Even the older ladies with their perma-perms.  They think it is really cute.  I love them for that.  I think they need faux hawks.  So that's my hair today, gone tomorrow story.  Hopefully you feel inspired.  Hopefully you will grow and donate to people in need!  Hopefully you look good with short hair....... :)

Shoes

I think Girls Just Wanna Have Fun said it best, "decisions are the worst." I am torn.  Not in any important way, but I would love opinions.   Zac and I finally have a little bit of free cash, so I decided it was time to buy the necessities.  I have 2 new bras on the way (which I am pumped about) and I ordered a new pair of running shoes and a new pair of work shoes.....well 3 pairs of work shoes.  I just wanna say, I LOVE Zappos.  Free shipping both ways!  I feel guilt free about the ordering...but I am struggling trying to decide which shoes to return.  I absolutely love my new running shoes.
Aren't they cute?  They are perfect!  My big problem is the work shoes.  I ordered 3 pairs, 1 was an immediate no, as far as the other 2 are concerned, I kinda hate them both.  I have worn each pair at work for a couple hours...no big differences in how they feel. These are my options....

or these....
There's not much difference...I know.  The ones on the top are $65 and the ones on bottom are $90, so again, not a huge difference.  I have been rockin' a pair of nikes for a long time and they are shot.  I keep wearing these around the house, one on my left foot, one on my right, debating.  My family was no help, Maggie said the ones on top, Annie said the bottom, Mom said they were both terrible (which I found to be incredibly helpful).  Maybe I should return both and get a second pair of athletic shoes like these

or these

maybe these

could be these

This is my dilemma.  Darn you Zappos and your free shipping you give me FAR too many options.  I am stuck.  I just don't have any interest in continuing to order, try, return, order, try, return and so forth.
So here I am, 10:30 at night, in my pajamas and mismatched work shoes deciding which I hate less...left shoe, right shoe, or ordering more shoes.

And for your viewing pleasure...Shoes

Pigs and Tigers

Found this online today.  It's pigs and tigers.  Sometimes it turns out that pigs take care of baby tigers and tigers take care of baby pigs AND they dress the pigs in little tiger costumes.  How do you not love it!

Tigers and Pigs

Go. Look.  You will smile and never regret it.

Free time

I got to take 1/2 a day off today.  Wisely, I chose my day off this month based on when I had this 1/2 to maximize my off-time.  The way I figure it, this gave me a whole lotta time to do what I want.  Then I got to thinking about what I actually do with my off-time.  A majority of the time, I'm by myself, and it's entirely up to me to entertain myself.  I always do something a little girly just to satisfy the part of me that's concerned with being pretty.   I also try to do something nice for Zac to satisfy the part of me that wants to be a good wife.  Usually this is something small, like making him cupcakes or his favorite dinner.  I occassionally will do something crafty, like sewing or painting.  So last Saturday, on my day off,  I found myself alone, with my hair deep conditoned and my nails newly painted.  I had organized my closet, changed the sheets, and done laundry.  I also mowed the yard for Zacman.  I accomplished a lot and it was only about 2.  With my compulsitory stuff outta the way I did what I really like to do in my spare time.  Prepare yourselves, it's ridiculous.  In my spare time, when I've got nothing else I feel has to be done, I turn into a total guy.  Here's an example of what I mean.

My tonight, Friday night, alone.....I had my half day at work and got home around 1, changed clothes,  ate lunch, and watched a little t.v.  I then cleaned my whole house, like hands and knees scrubbed the floor.  It was hardcore cleaning.  Not so oddly, I like a little music while I clean, maybe a little more oddly, I prefer rap.  So me and Snoop Dogg cleaned floors, dusted, etc.  After I got done cleaning I ran to Wal-mart.  While I was there I picked up some Easter candy for Zacman and (here's where the guy transitions stars) a six-pack of beer.  Yep.  I proceed out of Wal-mart, but was distracted by the Red Box and had to stop to pick up an action flick (and I already had one picked out at home).  I got home, heated up left over pizza, poured myself a beer, and am now over half an hour into Clear and Present Danger.  Now who out there would tell me that sounds like a bad time?  That's right, no one.  I am amused, I have to admit.  I'm not sure that if we did a survey, many people would guess that a good time for a 26 year-old married gal is rap and action movies.  But it totally is for me.  Like I said, it's ridiculous, but makes me happy.  I also got to wondering, if this is what I do with my free time what's everyone out there doin?

I feel as happy as this guy about Blue Moon and deep dish pizza!

P.S. For those of you that may be concerned about my pizza and action flicks, have no fear cause I am totally looking forward to trying the new body wash, eye shadow and mascara I picked up at Wal-mart tonight so I'm still a girly-girl.

Mail time!

Look what came in the mail!
I just love mail.  I'm not sure what it is about it...but I like it!  Then sometimes I open my mailbox and I am perplexed.  For example the day I flung all my other mail aside in excitement to read my new magazine and was immediately saddened when it was not House Beautiful but rather Hispanic Business.

This is not the first time, oh no.  I've received this publication three times so far.  I'm just curious, what crazy kidder bought me a subscription?  Or, who is giving Hispanic Business such bad demographic info.  I couldn't be more WASP (that's White, Anglo-saxon, Protestant) and I'm not a business owner.  Oh well.

P.S.  If any of you run into the good people over at PARENTING magazine, please tell them I have no children.

You're too sweet

Somedays some foods gross me out.  Generally it's something slimey.  I don't dig on certain textures.  Like jello, ew. I also am not a big fan of seafood.  I try, but I don't like that it's sweet.  I can do shrimp, but if you are a lobster or a crab, get outta my face.  Oysters, tried it, gagged.  Just looking at this picture of one makes me kinda cringy.

Lately though I just can't seem to handle much sweet food.  I already dislike icing, especially the really thick cream cheese kind everyone else seems to love.  In fact I almost always take the paper wrapper off of a cupcake then turn the cupcake upside down in the wrapper and scrape the icing off. Sorry cupcakes,   you are delicious,  I just don't like icing.  It is simply too sweet.  I can only handle about 1/2 a can of regular soda then I hit my threshold.  And diet soda, I might as well snack on sugar cubes.  Yuck.

How to Make Cupcakes How to Make Cupcakes

For breakfast today I was overwhelmed by cornflakes.  Who sugar coated that business?  They need to reel it in a bit.  I followed it up by a banana.  I like bananas that are barely yellow.  Once they get ripe enough to be sweet or kinda soft I can't deal with it....or the texture.  They have to become banana bread or face the terrible fate of the garbage can.  I have 3 bananas to eat today, because come tomorrow I won't be able to handle them.  It's ridiculous, I know, but I try not to be wasteful or finicky.  Just turns out today is gonna be a three banana day.  Looks like I'm gonna be drunk off bananas.  It could be worse.  I could be drunk off pancakes and that would ruin my diet big time.  Hope you are enjoying your day.  Eat something sweet for me!

I have a dream...

Well, lots of dreams really.  I am a nightly dreamer.  Lately my dreams have been downright crazy.  Crazy!    Annie told me Aubrie lost her teeth the same night I have a fairly drawn out anxiety dream about losing my teeth.  I had multiple bizarro dreams last night.  Started with a class trip to a lake where I was canoeing around, then realized that my "team" had just won and there was an awards ceremony that I had to run away from to avoid a killer in a beat-up truck.  In the dream he stabbed me behind the knee when I was trying to escape in a car.  Behind the knee.  Awful.  That's about when I woke up.  Then fell back asleep to have a deep sea diving dream in which I spear fished to catch a giant (like dolphin sized) sturgeon.  The most bizarre part is that I was swimming with these giant fish in an underground cave and thought it was AWESOME.  Fish creep me out, big time.  I had a hard time snorkeling on a vacation because I could see how close they were to me.  I could never be comfortable with that, but I was loving it!  Anyway, my mom says dreams are only entertaining to the people that have them (this is mostly after I tell her about an odd dream) but it has been so crazy lately they are still popping into my head today and it makes me uncomfortable.  I thought maybe if I put them out there for the whole world to see, maybe I might have a normal, boring dream tonight about dinner and a movie with Zac.  Here's to hopin...and dreamin.

A crappy way to start the day

My best friend called me yesterday with the most ridiculous story I've heard in awhile.  She is a teacher at a little school near Champaign (IL).  It is a consolidated school so it kinda sits out in the middle of nowhere.  The principal got there to open the doors in the morning and found a not so pleasant surprise.  There, in the center of the concrete, right in front of the building was poop.  He got a little curious.  It was just an odd spot.  Stray dogs don't generally wander all the way out to that schoool.  He figured he's check out the security footage to find out just what kind of crazy animals are prowling the campus at night.  Off to his office he went.  Rewind, rewind, rewind, fast forward, nothing, fast forward, nothing, fast forward then Ah! Something!

What I'm about to tell you is both shocking and overwhelmingly absurd.  There, in black and white security footage pulls up a garbage truck.  The headlights lit the footage, so you could see it clearly.  The garbage man got of the truck, dropped trou, and shat square on the sidewalk.  Unbelievable!  But it happened.  What grown-up is so mad about his job that he decides to poop on a school sidewalk?  Was it a personal vendetta?  Was it a message to someone? Maybe a threat?  Is the mob now sending a message but instead of dumping concrete on bodies they are just plain dumping on concrete?  While I have no real desire to see the footage, I am dying to know why this happened!  I just want to you imagine what this might have looked like and ask yourself today "have I, in any way, wronged my garbage man?"  Happy laughing!

P.S.  Can you even imagine the conversation between the principal and the garbage guy's supervisor.  "Yes this is Principal Smith...uh, we've got a situation here.  It seems that the garbage man took a crap on the sidewalk here outside the school.  Uh huh, yes sir, pooped on the sidewalk."

Life is a like a song

Zac and I have ecclectic taste in music.  We know this is because we are awesome.  Only people as cool as us listen to both Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Nine Inch Nais in the same evening, on vinyl no less.  But seriously, we like to scour record stores in every new town we visit to find the next jewel to add to our collection.  It's one of our favorite things to do.  Our newest album purchase was
We dig it!  We decided to go see them play a live show.  Zac picked the one in St. Louis, but it was yesterday and neither of us wanted to have to pull a late night show and early morning, we aren't kids anymore ya know.  So we picked the show in Chicago and bought tickets.  It was only later that we realized that the show is on a Sunday night and we were idiots.  Luckily Zac gets to take Monday off so he gets the late night driving shift cause my Monday is filling up with patients.  I'm gonna be draggin!

Concerts are one of my favorite things to do with Zac.  When we lived in St. Louis we had more opportunity to see great bands.  We saw Radiohead and had a great time at 311/Snoop Dogg.  I hope when we go visit our friends in Portland we get a chance to catch a great band play.  We shall see.  For now Zac and I need to decide on a plan.  We aren't sure if we are gonna head to Chicago tomorrow night and spend the day wondering around the city, or do a marathon drive there and back on Sunday.  Decisions, decisions.  I'm always up for some priceline negotiating for a great hotel for far less than I should pay.  Zac and I both love Chicago.  We even talked about living there before.  I'm not so sure that  Chicago is right for us anymore, but we still love to visit.  I am looking forward to a long drive, good pizza, a loud band and a cold beer.  I'm sure after said beer and pizza I will have at least one amuzing Zac tale to tell.  Until then, follow this link to hear Cage the Elephant play Aint' No Rest for the Wicked and take a minute to jam!

Days off

Today Zac and I both had the day off.  This is pretty unusual.  I generally have 3 nights a week and all day on Wednesday to my self.  Zac gets an entire day to lounge and watch movies on Thursdays (if Dad doesn't have plans for him.)  So what did we do with all this time together you ask?  In a word, nothing.  It was great!  We watched a movie last night, slept in a little today, watched the season finale of Nip/Tuck and did a little grocery shopping.  We made lunch, I made him cookies, we both ate way too many and I painted my nails while we watched The Godfather.  Sounds like a pretty darn good day huh?  Now it's 9 o'clock and I have that bit of guilt that always sneaks up on me after a day of doing what I want to do and not what is most productive.  Darn you work ethic!  It makes me believe that I should have cleaned my house top to bottom, have all the laundry finished and put away, all the closets and drawers should be organized and I should have exercised.  Thank goodness there is always Saturday afternoon to redeem myself :)  For now I will just keep kickin back and enjoying my coral fingernails, red toes and the company of my favorite man.

P.S.  Thank you again to Maggie for taking off my old toe polish after your adjustment.  I just couldn't risk messing up my fingers and you kinda owed me.  hahaha!

Getting Older

I am not exactly sure when I got old.  But it has happened.  It's subtle things.  Zac and I have both noticed it.  The other day Zac and I went to church and then out to lunch at a mexican joint. They had a lunch buffet so we did that.  Shortly after we ate, we both decided we felt gross and we were not gonna do that again anytime soon.  Zac can't eat dairy late at night unless he wants to be up sick to his stomach in the middle of the night.   So there goes 9pm Dairy Queen treats.  What the!?  When did we get to the point where what we eat determines how we feel or sleep?  That's just crazy.  That happens to old people!  I am supposed to be able to eat a diet of Little Debbies and Mountain Dew and still feel awesome.  I used to be able to.  This is just ridiculous, not to mention a little disappointing.

I went to spin class on Thursday and my butt has been sore from that bike seat for 3 days.  Three days to recover from riding a bike!  That's just sad.  I am starting to see my "bounce back" is not bouncing quite as high as it used to.  Also, I find I just can't seem to stay up late anymore without yawning a million times the next day and wanting to nap in one of my treatment rooms at work....not that I've ever done that..much.  I actually woke up on the couch at 8:30 the other night.  That means I was asleep before 8:30.  That's just wildly unreasonable.  Aside from my early bedtime, I have also started staying in simply to keep warm and be in my pj pants.   That's right, I'm now old enough to avoid the extremes of heat and cold.  I am even picking up old person interests.  In fact I spent this Friday night sewing and considered playing Bingo this afternoon with my friend Angie (who was invited by one of her old lady clients).  I am just shocked by my sharp decline into old age.  Apparently 25 is the new 85.  I think maybe I'll just embrace it.  Bust out the knitting needles, turn on Jeopardy, and hand over that crossword puzzle!

Quirks

Quirks, I know everyone has got them.  It just seems mine may be a little more ridiculous than others'.  Or at least that's what my husband says.  I think I just know when and where to draw a line in the sand.  There is always the possibility that I am just a little more odd than I'd like to aknowledge.  But really, is it odd that I have a whole list of words that I really dislike and, in fact, avoid both using and hearing?  I don't think so.  Review my list then tell me I'm wrong.  Words I hate:  panties, eyeball, moist, both snot and phlegm, tummy, vomit,  there are more, but lets stop there cause it's grossing me out.

Aside from words I dislike, there are also sounds.  I really hate the sound of styrofoam on cardboard box.  I also hate the sound papertowels make on on my husband's dry hands (he always wipes his fingers after meals, it's one of his ticks, and trust me the sound is just awful).  I hate the feedback sound that happens with PA systems every so often but I think everyone does.  Depending on the day, I also wanna plug my ears to the crunching sound snow makes under boots.  After a long afternoon at my sister's hanging drywall, I'm reminded I am not a huge fan of the squeak screws make as they bite into wood.
There are a few more things that I really dislike.  They are touches.  I hate when I am touched under my chin.  Awful.  Maggie thinks it's hysterical since I told her both Zac and I dislike it very much.  Now she occassionally sneeks in an underchin touch and I recoil in disgust.  I also don't like whispers in my ear.  It's too close, which is odd for me, since I'm generally invading the space of others (I'm a toucher, can't help it). More recently I discovered that I can't stand for my shower curtain liner to touch me when I'm showering or bathing.  I just replaced my liner and for some reason the one I hung wants to create a freakin cocoon around me.  It seems to be at random.  One minute I'm happily showering away and the next, that curtain has snuck up on me and is plastered to my side and I have to try to slap fight that curtain away from my body.

Zac says I'm being ridiculous.  But I know that he can't stand even the thought of someone biting a terry cloth towel.  A towel, not foil which most people can't stand the thought of, but a towel.  And you all were beginning to think that I'm weird.  Now I'm curious, what are you quirks?

P.S.  Zac came to me earlier and told me he thinks we need to get a different shower curtain cause he didn't like that it tried to touch him. hahahaha!
