Gettin' "justed"

People are always shocked when I say I adjust babies.
They almost always ask why, and say they can't imagine that an infant would need it.
They also can't imagine handing over their precious newborns for what must surely be some sort of violent neck-jerking, stroke-inducing procedure.
But babies need worked on.
They do.

Just remember what I looked like at the end of my pregnancy...
Me at 9 months

Me on my due date

In that month, I definitely got bigger, as did Cliff.
He was jammed up to say the least.  I couldn't breathe, sleep, roll over, squat, bend forward, get off the couch...you get the picture.  Most of my "disability" was because everytime I moved, I physically ran into the baby inside my abdomen.  As you will recall, he was 10lbs 14 oz and 22 inches long when he got here.  That takes up a considerable amount of space.  And while Cliffy B was a dancing machine, there was nary an inch to really stretch out or do back flips.

From 32 weeks on, he stayed with his head down and his butt up in my ribs, with his back along my left hand side.  He spent a full 10 weeks in that position alone.  10 whole weeks, 24 hours a day.
Imagine you doing such a thing.
So I was not so shocked to see that baby likes to sleep with his neck crooked to the side.  Not at all.
Now I have to correct it.

This was not his first adjustment.  He got his first adjustment the day he was born...to make sure he was pooping.  Poops get rid of the yuck...the yuck makes babies jaundice.  At the hospital they want babies bilirubin count to be below 10 before they get to go home....Cliff's was a super pooper.  His count was at a 1.
What up Chiropractic care?!

This is what it looks like...

It is gentle.

Cliff slept right through it.

I call it an adjustment.
Caroline calls it, "gettin justed"

As he gets bigger, he will start to ask, like all the bigger kids do.
I wish all of you, and your babies, were closer.
Then you could all get justed.

  1. Hi Abbie,

Does Chiropractic care help adults poop too? :) I've struggled with constipation all my life and now I'm 16 weeks pregnant and it is getting worse. I've never been to a chiropractor before but I'm desperate for something that doesn't involve drugs.

By the way, Clifford is adorable! With all that hair he looks like a baby doll.
