A baby food bonanza

I know I've mentioned that I am making all of my little sister's baby's food.  And I have.  It's been not so bad really.  I've had 2 major cook days, one which made enough food to last a little over a month and then Super Bowl Sunday.  Maggie and Kylie went shopping and she brought home everything I needed, dropped it by with some freezer bags and extra ice cube trays and I got to work.  It really takes less effort than you might think.  This is what I started off with
So there were apples, pears, kiwis, blueberries, carrots, peas, green beans, brocolli, zucchini, corn, sweet potatoes,  and squash.  I started by peeling and chopping all the things that would need to bake.  For apples and pears, you just need to peel and core, chop and put in little foil bags. Sweet potatoes and carrots are scrubbed and foiled up.  I roasted the squash and steamed almost everything else.  Easy
This was part of the process.

Step 2

This is how ridiculous my oven looked after I had packaged everything.

After everything bakes or steams I just puree it up, sometimes strain things, then put into little tubs or into ice cube trays and freeze.  I ended up using a lot of tubs, because I ran out of ice cube trays.  This is what I ended up with at the end of everything.

Now that's a heck of a lot of baby food.  Actually, 320 some tablespoons. I kept track.  It makes me happy to see it all again.  I did good work.  There are a few things that suck about it....well for me at least.  I have no food processer. I borrowed Maggie's sister-in-law's Magic Bullet.  Surely you've seen the infomercial.  You can just imagine how long it took to puree all that in those little cups.  Not exactly efficient.  I was impressed with the way it all turned out though.  I ended up filling 24 tubs.  Not sure how many cubes exactly.  Maggie spent $20 on the food.  The Gerber tubs that hold 3.5 oz, are sold in a 2 pack for $1.99 according to the interenet sites.  So, what I made should have cost $92.  Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I'm awesome :)
